Greetings, fellow infidels:
Found a couple of pieces worth reading on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
The first article deals with a discussion around Sen. McCain's bill which
directs enemy conbatants (like the ones in Gito) be treated as directed in the
Army Field Manual - that is, without use of any forms of torture. Apparently,
torture hasn't been a reliable means of getting accurate information.
Funny how real war vets like McCain and Powell wants our military to conduct
ourselves in moral excellence, while the Oilmen wish play dirty, ignoring the
Fourth Geneva Convention, which reportedly covers civilian combatants. Dubya
threatned to veto the Bill as well, which passed the Senate 90-9. This would
mean that the ONLY BILL DUBYA'S EVER VETOED DURING HIS TERM WAS FOR TORTURING
PRISONERS. Good Luck - I smell an landslide of an override should the veto
occur.
Don't mistake me for a Peacenik - my first Commanding Officer was a POW in
Hanoi; and I'm with McCain and Powell on this one. Here's the URL
http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2005/10/6/43412/4301The second article is about the Defense Intelligence Agency asking for a "work
around" past the Privacy Act by allowing their agents to go undercover
domestically against US citizens...
I thought that was the FBI/NSA/Homeland Security's job to investigate domestic
leads.
The URL for the Oxymoroned Agency article:
http://www.dhonline.com/articles/2005/1 ... /nat04.txtI guess the term "Duty, Honor, Country" and similar Codes of Conduct we've
used to protect our constitutional rights continue to whither away.
I might consider emigrating somewhere, any suggestions? (Ha!!)
